Bento Box:
Your Ticket to a Balanced Life
(30-Second YouTube Motion Graphics Storytelling)
2025
Individual Assignment | Semester 1 | Specialist Diploma in Motion Graphics Design
Overview
This project is a 30-second motion graphics video that explains the value of a bento box in a fun and creative way. The idea was to show how a simple bento box can promote health, balance, and lifestyle convenience through animation and storytelling.
I worked on the full process myself – from concept and scriptwriting to illustration and animation.
Concept
The bento box was transformed into a magical car that takes viewers on a journey. Each stop along the way explains one key message:
1. What is a bento box?
2. Why it’s important to care for your bento box.
3. How it promotes healthy eating.
4. Who can use it and when.
5. Call to action: “Join the bento journey!”
The car metaphor makes the story more engaging and memorable.
Process
1. Script & Storyboard
• Wrote a clear script with 6 sections (hook, 4 main points, CTA).
• Created a storyboard with visuals and text to map the flow of the video.
2. Illustration
• Drew the bento box and food as characters with personality.
• Used bright, playful colours to show health and positivity.
• Designed backgrounds like roads, car wash, and picnic scenes to support the story.
3. Animation
• Used Adobe After Effects to animate scenes.
• Focused on smooth transitions, like the bento turning into a car, food cheering, and the car moving across different places.
• Added dynamic but simple motions (bubbles, fireworks, car movement) to keep it lively.

Reflection
This project helped me improve my skills in:
• Storytelling with animation – turning an everyday object into a character.
• Balancing design and education – keeping it fun while explaining benefits.
• End-to-end workflow – from script to final animation.
It showed me how to simplify complex ideas into a fun, visual story!
